Sun imageActivities All Points Argentina

One of the advantages of Argentina being such a vast and varied country is that activities are plentiful and many of these can be incorporated within your trip.  This may be a sport you have never tried before or a passion which has drawn you to Argentina in the first place, but whatever it is we will help you participate in these activities whilst having a lot of fun.

Patagonia, the southern part of Argentina, is a great place to visit if you like the outdoors, from Bariloche and the surrounding Lake District to El Chalten and the Fitz Roy mountain range, right down to Ushuaia, the most southern city of the world, and the Tierra del Fuego National Park.  Below are some of the activities that can be enjoyed in these areas.

Trekking

Trekking is extremely popular in Patagonia, especially in the Andes mountain range, and it is possible to do anything from short half day walks to three day hikes staying in mountain refugios (huts) on the way.   This is a fantastic way to see the countryside and experience nature at its wildest.  All treks can be made independently or with a guide.

"The trek to the Otto Meiling refugio at the base of Mount Tronador was a real highlight of our adventure in the Argentinean Lakes. We knew there would be a chance to spot the legendary Andean Condor but our entertaining guide went one better than that. After feasting on fillet steak and red wine we awoke to the rare sight of a whole family of these majestic birds gliding silently just metres from our camp. Truly breathtaking. Thank you so much All Points Argentina for giving us such a unique and wonderful experience." (Simon & Ann, Bristol)

Horse Riding

If walking is not for you or you would like a different way to see the countryside of Argentina, from the Andes to the Pampas, horse riding in the land of the gaucho comes highly recommended.  We can arrange for you to spend a day riding on an estancia (farm), with a chance to gallop freely in the wild open spaces of the Patagonian steppe or the flat lands of the Buenos Aires Province.  Alternatively, head off on a several day trip in the Lake District with our guide, Ariane, spending the nights camping out under the stars or staying with a local Mapuche family.  This is a truly unforgettable experience as you climb high into the mountains, away from civilisation below.

Rafting & Kayaking

For those with an adventurous streak, white-water rafting in Argentina is a must!  Passing beautiful scenery, often through stunning river canyons, it is an exhilarating feeling as you reach the rapids and start to paddle furiously! Whether in the warmer climate of northern Argentina, or often cooler in the south, you will be kitted out accordingly with wetsuits and rafting equipment and, after a lesson with safety instructions, you will set off on your adrenalin-fuelled ride! Great for both a novice or experienced rafter.

If however a more peaceful, leisurely option appeals, kayaking is a wonderful alternative.   Whether you choose and individual or tandem kayak, you can cruise along at your own pace and enjoy the surrounding setting.   A fantastic day out for a family or couple.

Fly Fishing

Argentina is known amongst avid fly fisherman to be one of the best countries in the world to catch a trout.  As a passionate fisherman it was on Annabel's father´s list of places to go and a few years back his dream of fishing in Tierra del Fuego, the southern tip of Argentina, came true.  And we can make this happen for you as well. Whether you bring your own rods or would prefer to hire the equipment whilst you are here, we can arrange for local guides to take you to the best waters in Argentina, from the Rio Limay in the Lake District to the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego.

Skiing & Snowboarding

If winter sports are your thing and you can´t get enough snow during the year, why not head to the southern hemisphere between July and October for some fantastic skiing and snowboarding.  We can arrange for you to visit Bariloche and the nearby ski resort of Cerro Catedral where you can spend your days on the slopes whilst enjoying the views of the Lake District from up high.  At night you can kick off your boots and put your dancing shoes on as there are plenty of lively bars and clubs to keep you entertained until the early hours!

But activities in Argentina are not just about sports. There are plenty of other ways to spend your time and have a complete Argentinean experience.  From a gastro-tour of fabulous restaurants, where you can feast on tender lomo (fillet steak) or bife de chorizo (sirloin steak), to shopping for the most authentic yet stylish leather products, such as jackets, shoes, bags and belts.  It is also superb for those who have an interest in the hobbies mentioned below.

Wines

Many people visit Argentina for the wines.  The main wine country is the Province of Mendoza, located in central Argentina near the border of Chile, but Salta in the northwest is also a fast-growing area in terms of production.  We can arrange for you to visit different bodegas (vineyards) in both these areas to learn of the process of these wines, such as the smooth-bodied Malbec, the most popular planted grape in Argentina.   The tours can either be private or in a small group, or you can rent a bicycle for a day and head off on your own.  But whatever you choose, prepare yourself for some delicious tastings!

Photography

Argentina is a wonderful place to visit if you are a keen photographer, amateur or professional; the wide open landscapes, huge skies and wonderful light.  And let’s not forget the interesting faces of the local people who have many stories to tell.  Beautiful shots can be taken all year round, but it’s worth remembering that the days are very long in the south during the summer months, particularly November to February, so you might have a few early mornings and late nights to be able to catch the best light.

Wildlife & Bird Watching

The enormity of Argentina results in hugely varied flora & fauna, which in turn is a great attraction for wildlife and bird lovers.  Imagine first heading south for an example of wildlife typical to Patagonia.  Peninsula Valdes and the neighbouring stretch of Atlantic coastline is home to numerous sea birds, Magellanic Penguins, Elephant Seals, Orcas and the enormous Southern-Right Whales which head to the bay to breed at certain times of the year, as well as many other species that live in the surrounding scrublands.  Then heading north to Iguazu and the sub-tropical rainforests of Missiones.  Here you can see Capuchin monkeys, caiman (a type of crocodile), toucans and other wonderful birdlife.  We can arrange for an experienced guide to take you bird watching in the thick of the forests, with the hope of seeing birds such as the Helmeted Woodpecker, Black-throated Trogan and a number of fly catchers and tyrants.   What a contrast to the mighty Condor that can be seen in the mountains of the Andes!

So whatever your likes and interests, All Points Argentina will design your holiday bearing these in mind.  Just drop us a line and we will create the perfect trip for you.
